Mankato Area Bike Fleets
Teaching How to "Drive a Bike"
Anyone can ride a bike, right? It's true. Most people can get on and pedal, but bicyclists fare best when they act and are treated as drivers of vehicles. Many of us have never been taught to "drive our bike." And our elementary aged kids have not been trained to drive a vehicle either.
To help teach "how to drive a bike", the Greater Mankato Bike & Walk Advocates now own and make available bikes in the Greater Mankato area to help local schools incorporate Bike Safety Education into their curriculum.

Walk! Bike! Fun! CurriculumThe Minnesota Walk! Bike! Fun! Pedestrian and Bicycle Safety Curriculum is a two-part curriculum designed specifically for Minnesota's schools and youth education programs. It is structured to meet Minnesota education standards and is an important part of the Minnesota Department of Transportation's Safe Routes to School Program. Walk! Bike! Fun! helps children ages five to 13 learn traffic rules and regulations, the potential hazards to traveling, and handling skills needed to bike and walk effectively, appropriately and safely through their community.
